Dr. Daphene Booker-Harris, known affectionately as the Preschool Icon™, is at the forefront of revolutionizing early childhood education in Memphis and beyond. Her groundbreaking venture, Global Preschool Consulting, has empowered over 2000 childcare entrepreneurs worldwide with a unique blueprint for creating successful, high-
quality, and financially sustainable preschools.
Daphene's impressive array of accolades includes being an award-winning author, a certified international coach and mentor, and the recipient of the Best New Program of the Year award. As a serial entrepreneur, she serves as the CEO of both Global Preschool Academy and Daffy Duck Learning Akademy. She is also the visionary founder of Global Children Services, which has achieved the distinction of being the first African-American-led independent preschool to receive National Accreditation in her city.
In 2023, Daphene added a significant academic achievement to her illustrious career by graduating from business school with a degree in Business Philosophy. This academic milestone further solidifies her foundational knowledge and innovative approach to the business of childcare and education.

Dr Daphene Booker-Harris, the Preschool Icon® is changing the trajectory of children and families throughout the city of Memphis and beyond. As a much sought after childcare consultant, Daphne launched the Global Preschool Consulting Company, designed to teach new and expanding childcare providers with proven blueprints and principles of building profitable childcare empires. https://www.globalpreschoolconsulting.com/ Dr Daphene Booker-Harris has made her legacy of building a multi-million dollar business empire into a family affair from the start. Together with her husband and business partner, Todd, alongside their 5 children, the Harris’ have built a family empire. When she is not consulting, Daphene enjoys doting on her precious grandson whom she affectionately calls her Glambaby. “Being a family-run child care facility, we treat each child as if they are our own.” Daphne reflects on her business model. When asked about the foundation of her work, Daphene summed it up by saying, “we are creating achievers who will become leaders”, which encapsulates her core philosophy about investing in the value and uniqueness of children, nurturing their intellectual genius, developing their overall health and wellness both physically and spiritually.
Humanitarian, award winner, and most recently, Recipient of the Drop the Mic Coaching Award, and recognized as the Best New Program of the Year, Dr Daphene Booker-Harris shows no sign of slowing down any time soon. Global Children Services was created as an off-shoot of Daphene’s philanthropic outreaches in which she and her team have created a food distribution program that feeds over 400 families throughout Memphis, provide backpacks and schools supplies to more than 500 children through their annual back to school drive, the investment in residential and commercial real estate, providing utility assistance to families in need, and the highly anticipated fall Trunk-or Treat outreach that draws nearly 1400 children and families at her flagship pre-school location.
In addition, twice a year, the organization hosts children for all-expense camping experiences in partnership with the Girl Scouts of America.
The need for quality childcare providers in the United States has never been greater. Even before COVID-19, families struggled to find quality child care in their areas. Daphene reflects on the ever-changing landscape of childcare, “The childcare industry is saturated, heavily regulated, and there are so many moving parts of starting and managing a successful childcare business that it can be confusing”. Additionally, there are significant licensing procedures and safety requirements for opening new centers. In the nearly 20 years of working in the industry, Daphne has seen first-hand the frustrations that come with opening a new or expanding an already operating center. New owners are especially susceptible to those frustrations, at times ending the endeavor before they have had a chance to succeed in the industry. “I want to show business owners what to focus on first so that they don’t get discouraged”, Daphene reflects.
Through her GPS blueprint, Daphene’s mission is to transform the day care industry by empowering new and expanding owners through increased visibility, brand recognition, and profitability. As a strategist, Daphene brings an incredible depth of knowledge and ability to assist owners with practical preschool startup steps and help them develop and maintain an Iconic Preschool.
It is her own upbringing in a tight-knit Memphis community where Daphene experienced first had what it means to be loved and cared for. Her grandmother, a pillar in the community was known for her gentle wisdom and warm hospitality. Daphene continues her grandmother’s legacy through the food distribution program which feeds over 400 families throughout Memphis, the investment in residential and commercial real estate, providing utility assistance tofamilies in need, and the highly anticipated fall Trunk-or-Treat outreach that draws nearly 1400 children and families at her flagship childcare center location. Her reason: “Our children deserve leaders who will equip them to thrive in life. We owe it to them to provide a safe environment where they can learn to embrace education. It is not enough to be in love with childcare. You need a plan and support if you want to become the next success story”, is the cornerstone of Daphene’s childcare philosophy.
During a recent master-minds conference, Daphne reflected on her at times turbulent road to success and the many challenges she faced along the way. Through homelessness, bankruptcy, legal troubles, and constantly business mistakes, Daphne’s challenges have helped her become the success story she is today. It is those tough lessons she has learned that she readily shares with others to help them avoid the pitfalls she overcame.
